UK travel - my favourite cities & towns

Hi Guys,

after a short hiatus in writing blogs (Christmas and academic commitments got in the way, then recharging batteries) -finally my latest blog is here. I was considering several topics, anywhere from food to erotica, but since my last blog proved quite a success, I decided not to stray too much as I sometimes get asked what places I have visited (way too many to count) and where I enjoyed myself most. Admittedly, travel blogs are always a nice read, be it hotel or beach reviews in magazines, or someone's own account. Well, previously I talked a little about travelling abroad, but this time I would like to mention my current UK favourite spots outside of London. Please forgive me if I don't list out all of the great towns or counties, the blog would then go on for miles )Funny, last night I was watching the early 1970s movie Get Carter with Michael Caine, and it reminded me of the iconic scene of him on the train to Newcastle, at that time you could even dine on the train like in a restaurant, well not anymore, but at least a lot of train lines have improved a lot in terms of speed, so you can be in Manchester within 2 hours or Birmingham 1.5 hours.

One of the towns I really fell in love with is Norwich. I know that getting there can be a real pain in terms of travel time. The map distance doesn’t seem bad, similar to Birmingham or Leicester, but there are no proper Motorways leading to Norwich (such as the notorious M25) and the rail tracks aren't as developed in terms of speed so you don't get a fast line. I remember the journey was at least 2 hours, if not longer. However, it was worth it and good for East Anglia not wanting to ruin their countryside with gridlock of cars (at least not on the agenda yet ). I think Norfolk/ Suffolk represents a very natural part of the UK when it comes to natural reservoirs, wetlands or eco-farms. As for Norwich, the town centre is tidy, quite hilly, just the right size, feels very English and is peaceful overall.

Warwick - A few years ago I had the great opportunity to enjoy a late summer visit to Warwick Castle. It’s quite commercial, the amount of ice cream sold on the Castle yard could give you a real sugar rush. Well, I love ice cream and at least it makes me go to the gym more often, you have to have some motivation after all. I truly enjoyed the Castle’s gardens too. They have got plenty of very friendly and quite tame peacocks roaming freely and once they spread their tails you are almost blinded by the blue-green spectrum of colours. Warwick as a town is very English too in terms of building structure and feel.

Cheltenham - great for a little bit of culture. I enjoy concerts and Cheltenham is good for this outside of London. It's a very upmarket town (known for horse racing as well - sorry guys, not into that - I always feel sad when a horse has to be put down:/ ) Getting to Cheltenham can be a little complicated though, there are some direct trains but you usually have to change at Swindon or Stroud first. Upon visiting Cheltenham I also managed a visit to Slimbridge and would like to return!

Cardiff - Yes I know you may think I am crazy. Several years back I would not disagree, but Cardiff has gone through so much redevelopment, especially the city centre. They have a new John Lewis (so definitely a notch up ha ha!) and lots of new restaurants, bars and Cardiff Bay has never looked better. I visited Cardiff Castle too. It wasn't as mesmerizing as Warwick Castle in my eyes, but definitely worth going as its right on the top of the town so a nice view. It’s not too bad of a journey either, 2 hours by train from London and great for a bit of a night life.

Edinburgh - That still remains an unforgettable experience. I visited years ago, at the end of a very cold December, so the winds were quite high and brisk (Edinburgh is just as windy as Brighton in winter!) The town centre was expectedly busy for the time of the year but very walkable and the buildings well cared for and had an upmarket feel. It has got a lot of history, people seemed very nice and not at all arrogant. I only wish Edinburgh was a little closer so I could go more often!

Cambridge – Another very elegant town, historical and has a slight cold feel but in a good sense. A real shocker are all the ropey bicycles chained outside the rail station. Literally hundreds of them.:) It also takes a while to reach the town centre, even by car which is unusual. Eventually, once in, you will feel safe and enjoy all the lovely old buildings and little side streets.

Bournemouth – Not as commercial and popular as Brighton but beach is great and not very far to lovely Dorsett. Planning a small holiday there this summer.

Next on my little list will be to see a little more of Cornwall, Mid Wales (Brecon) and Yorkshire (minus the famous pudding pls;)

Apologies

Hello guys,

sorry about the huge delay between my last blog and now. I had some academic commitments back in January and it wasn't really conducive to finding an inspiration for my next blog. I am sure you can forgive me. I didn't forget at all, it was always at the back of my mind and then it took me some time to think of what I should consider as the follow-up topic.

The good news is I am now in the process of "rustling it up" so should be posted any day now. Back to normality I guess! :)

This year January has passed so quickly, it usually feels like the longest month ever but hey there we are, a little closer to spring now.

Happy New Year guys

Just wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year and all the best in 2015.

I am currently preparing my next blog so hopefully be posted by the weekend. I very much enjoyed some time off but Christmas flew by rather quickly. I hope you all spent some quality time with friends and family. I must admit January is my least favourite month unlike December but I am sure it will be far more bearable in some great company:)

I wanted to thank everyone for a nice time so far. Despite being a part-timer, I have been lucky enough to have met some fantastic people. Also, thanks ever so much for all the little gifts you brought with you ( chocolates, flowers, soaps etc. ). I never expect anything extra but it's the thought that counts. Hopefully I can give something back by making you feel special and put a smile on your face.

Interview in more detail, part 1

Hello guys,

hope you are all having a good week so far despite weather turning cold. Sorry my blog comes as slightly delayed one. I was hoping it would have been up last weekend! I would like to dedicate the following few blogs to some of my answers in the interview bit. I must admit I have no idea how many of you click on that section and read it....But since some of you read my blogs then you are likely to read my interview bit and the other way round. I don't want to cover everything in one blog, better to split it a little.
I will commence with the favourite holiday destination part. Well in summer I really fancied a trip to Iceland. It's just something different than the usual Mediterranean hype and preference. When I was younger I used to enjoy lots of sunshine and so holidaying somewhere traditionally hot and bringing a darker tan just to make others notice I was abroad was an ultimate holiday accomplishment.
As I am getting older ( and hopefully wiser ;) ) I prefer other qualities of what a good holiday can offer, such as cleanliness of the environment, fresh air ( something that particularly Londoners may appreciate ), fine dining & drinks, hiking. In summary - just enjoying the peace and quiet without all the noise we are exposed to on a daily basis. Hence I would like to visit Iceland, because it has a different charisma to it. The only time you can travel for fun though is in summer months so it may have to be put on hold for a while!
My second favourite and more of a dream trip is The Galapagos Islands, since I am a big fan of wildlife. I very much like water birds, be it our ordinary European ducks or herons, but also species such as turtles ( and similarly the dry land tortoises which can live far longer than humans ), seals, penguins, lizards, iguanas etc. I admire seeing intact wildlife living the life they should be - without any major disturbance by humankind and damages done by the chemical industry and improper recycling. Not all animals are as lucky as the ones from The Galapagos, however, I would like my blogs to be always on the positive side...
My other favourite destinations from Europe is unbeatably Switzerland ( I like mountains in summer ). Switzerland always comes across as a pristine country and a great place to live for the lucky few. I visited in 1997 when I was very young so I don't remember every detail but the amount of chocolates and watches everywhere:) The selection of chocs really took my breath away. On the downside, I found it very expensive there but would and will definitely return.
Due to some Greek heritage I get asked if I like visiting Greece, well despite spending a bit of time there when younger, I must admit I never really enjoyed the constant heat and no rain for at least 6 consecutive months ( in the mid-southern parts at least ). Also, the lifestyle there is very different to the usual Monday- Friday British one, Greeks go to sleep in the middle of the day and then return to work for a bit and then up till 2-3-4am. I guess you get used to it but still, every night??? Having said that, Greece has got its claim to fame of course - some may enjoy the food, the beaches, the monuments and even the heat. I believe a large number of Britons will always prefer to go somewhere hot for holidays, especially the ones from northern parts of the country where the sun can be sparse. You can then spot some of them on beaches looking like lobsters:/ Please, always look after yourselves in hot foreign climes, sometimes less is more!

Poppy time

Hello guys,

I thought it was time for another shorter blog this time. I am planning to write a longer one this weekend about some of my Interview section answers but for now - just to say I finally managed to get myself a little poppy.
I contribute every year, every year I get my poppy and every year I manage to lose it somewhere on the streets before 11th November.
Last year I bought 3 poppies and managed to lose all of them within a space of two weeks! Hard case, I know;)

I will do my best year to keep it stationary on my coat:)

Those of you who care, please remember to get yours. It's for a good cause. xxx

Lovely weekend

Hello Everyone,

how's your weekend going? Such a nice weather today, it's hard to believe we are nearly in mid October now...the time flies incredibly fast in the run-up to Xmas. December happens to be one of my favourite months. Maybe because everything is so bright and sparkly, all the Xmas lights are conducive to good amicable atmosphere, amazing food and a little bit of childhood nostalgia! Also, London goes really quiet right before Xmas Day and then throughout the festive period. I don't like the short days and chill but it's all part of the charm. Have a lovely rest of the weekend and enjoy the England game tomorrow ( for those watching;) )

30min sessions vs 1hr +

Hi guys,

at this time of year, when weather goes funny and we get the typical autumnal clime- unsettled, windy, daylight gets shorter week by week, I find myself writing and reading a lot more than usual...cosy nights in and all that....:)

I often get asked why I don't offer 30minute bookings. Well, the ones who already spent time with me can testify I don't favour anything rushed or perfunctory. I like to enjoy someone's company too in between those sweet sensations...Since I am really not a clock-watcher, 30mins with me will usually go well beyond that time frame and so why not make it an hour straight up? It'll be well worth it!;)
